New special issue on Journal of Urbanism: International Research on Placemaking and Urban Sustainability

Please check out new special issue edited by Dr. Ceren Sezer, with co-editor Patricia Simoes Aelbrecht in the Journal of Urbanism: International Research on Placemaking and Urban Sustainability>>> The Design of the Public Realm: Emerging Theories and Practices. The public realm is changing – rapidly and fundamentally. Yet much of urban design still draws on theories developed decades ago, before digital technologies, climate emergencies, and deep social fragmentation reshaped urban life. Our special issue calls for new perspectives, new tools, and new ways of connecting theory, practice, and policy to better understand and design the public realm as a dynamic, contested, and evolving space, one that is increasingly central to climate resilience, sustainability, and net-zero transitions. The introduction and several papers in the issue are open access; so feel free to dive in and explore. I would like to thank my co-editor, Patricia Simoes Aelbrecht, all contributing authors, and the journal editors for this fruitful collaboration and for their support throughout the preparation process. with Vikas Mehta, Josep Llorca Bofí, Gabriela Quintana Vigiola, Reem Cherif, Dalia Wahdan, Merrick Morley, Quentin Stevens, Kim Dovey, HaeRan Shin
